Husky Football 3-0 after 34-3 Win at Concordia-St. Paul

St. Paul, Minn. – St. Cloud State University is off to a 3-0 start for the first time since the 2007 season as the #23/#24 Husky football team defeated #25 Concordia-St. Paul 34-3 Saturday night in St. Paul.
The game featured two undefeated Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) teams and the Golden Bears drop to 2-1 overall.
The Huskies rolled up 437 yards of total offense, including 243 in the air and held the Golden Bears to 206 yards of offense and 85 on the ground.
St. Cloud State scored on five of six first half drives and led 21-0 at the end of the first quarter and took a 31-0 shutout into halftime.
St. Cloud State senior quarterback Phillip Klaphake (Princeton) was the first Husky in the end zone, scoring on a three-yard run. He also threw for two touchdowns, completing 20 of 31 passes for 243 yards. He finished with 40 rushing yards.
Senior runningback Michael Walker (Walworth, Wis.) rushed for one touchdown and scored his second on a 41-yard pass reception, both in the first quarter. He finished the game with 68 yards rushing.
Senior receiver Damon Treat (Fairfield, Calif.) caught his third touchdown pass of the season, a 21-yard play in the second quarter. He finished the game with seven catches for 66 yards, carried the ball three times for 19 yards and returned one kick-off for 47 yards.
Defensively the Huskies were led by senior linebacker Tate Christopherson (Maple Grove) who collected eight tackles.
Jack Moro (Brookfield, Wis.) continues to close in on the career interception record as he collected his second of the season and 16th of his Husky career. He is three shy of tying the school record of 19.
Concordia-St. Paul runningback Tre Spears rushed 20 times for 60 yards and Jared Russo completed 11 of 22 passes for 121 yards. Mike Willett was the leading tackler in the game with 12.
St. Cloud State will host Augustana College next Saturday in a 6 p.m. kick-off at Husky Stadium. The Vikings are 2-1 and coming off a 24-0 win over Bemidji State.
