Huskies men's and women's track teams place second in Van Nelson Invite

St. Cloud, Minn. – The St. Cloud State men's and women's track and field teams hosted the Van Nelson Invite Saturday afternoon and both teams came away with second place finishes in the Triangular.
RESULTS
The women's team placed second with 85 points behind first place Emporia State, 123 points and Concordia University-St. Paul placed third with 57 points.
On the men's side, Emporia State won the team title with 128 points followed by St. Cloud State with 82 points and Concordia-St. Paul with 71 points.
The St. Cloud State women posted four first place finishes. Sam Sunstrom (Sauk Rapids) won the 1-mile run in 5:23.98. Kassie Vaness (Oxford, Wis.) was victorious in the 3000 meter run in a time of 10:56.23 and Heather Clankie (Brodhead, Wis.) won the shot put with a throw of 42-01.5. The Huskies 4x400 relay team of Jasmine Grant (Surrey, Canada), Jenny Gilbreath (Burlington, Wis.), Alicia Lipka (Princeton) and Alicia Evans (Melrose) won their race in 4:05.20 setting a new Van Nelson Invite record.
Grant and Evans had second and third place finishes respectively, in the 400 meter dash with Grant running in 59.82 and Evans in 1:00.43. In the 800 meter run Kylie Baas (Cambridge) place second in 2:21.69 and Rachel Sakry (Milnor, N.D.) in third in 2:34.97. Baas also had a third place finish in the high jump. Laure Olson (Hawley) placed in several events, finishing third in the 60 meter hurdles in 9.36, second in the triple jump and fifth in the shot put.
The St. Cloud State men posted three firsts. JoVonte Suber (St. Louis, Mo.) won the 400 meter dash in 50.84. Chris Caron (Ham Lake) ran to first in the 3000 meter run in 9:17.48 and Ryan Johnson (Amery, Wis.) won the weight throw. Johnson also placed second in the shot put.
Darryl Howard (Tampa, Fla.) placed third in the 400 meter dash in 53.59. Matt Mooney (Maple Lake)placed second in the 60 meter hurdles in 8.86 and Riley Myers (Chisago Lakes) was third 9.16. The Huskies 4x400 relay of Suber, Howard, Ted Tranel (Cuba City, Wis.) and Rashad Harris (St. Louis, Mo.) placed second in 3:32.17. Andrew Reid (Zimmerman) and Jordan Yira (Hutchinson) finished second and third in the long jump
