Track & Field Completes Day One of the NSIC Indoor Championships

Bemidji, Minn. – St. Cloud State track and field ended day one of competition at the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Indoor Championships Friday. The Huskies earned four athletes in their respected events to move into Saturday's final rounds.

St. Cloud had multiple athletes also earn top finishes in the finals of a few events. On the women's side freshman Patience Yalartai took fourth in the long jump posting a jump of 18-03.00, this is also a provisional qualifying mark for Nationals. Sophomore Kellan Flynn tied for seventh place in the high jump off a mark of 5-03.75.
Running the distance for the women and both earning top-10 finishes was senior Kassie Vaness and freshman Sam Sunstrom in the 3,000m run. Vaness finished sixth on a time of 10:13.22, while Sunstrom took ninth for a time of 10:17.52.
Finals on the men's side were freshman Keyshawn Davis earning the top finish as he took second in the long jump with a jump of 23-00.75. His mark once again provisionally qualifies him for Nationals. Sophomore Joe Mooney finished third in the high jump with a height of 6-07.00, while senior teammate Riley Myers took seventh on a mark of 6-03.25. In the shot put finals it was sophomore Ryan Johnson taking fourth, throwing for a distance of 51-07.25.
The men's distance medley relay final the Huskies consisting of Rashad Harris, Ted Tranel, Paul Greenwood and Mahdi Koliso earned themselves a seventh place finish posting a time of 10:37.95.
Advancing to Saturday's final rounds is sophomore JoVonte Suber in the 600m run as he took third in the prelims with a time of 1:23.66. Seniors George Kawalawu (6.88) and Leon Cheneyon (6.91) both advanced to Saturday's finals in the 60m dash with a second and third place finishes respectively in Friday's prelims. Also moving on to Saturday is freshman Dillando Allotey (22.32) off a fourth place finish in the 200m dash prelims.
