Becky Schmidt leads track and field team at Minnesota Open

Minneapolis, Minn. – Senior Becky Schmidt (White Bear Lake, Minn.) won both the 60 meter dash and long jump to lead the St. Cloud State track and field team at the Minnesota Open Saturday.
"A great effor by everyone today," said head coach Eric Hanenberger. "I'm really happy with the direction of the whole team. I also want to thank the alumni who attended the meet in support of our Huskies. We are looking forward to SDSU next weekend."

Schmidt won the 60 meter dash in 7.83 and had a winning jump of 19-00.50 in the long jump. Schmidt met an NCAA provisional qualifying mark in the long jump.
On the men's side first year trackster Isaiah Pitchford (Waukesha, Wis.) won the 400 meter dash in 50.59.
Other highlights for the women included a second and third place finish in the women's 400 meter dash. Junior Alicia Evans (Melrose, Minn.) was second in a time of 1:00.04 while sophomore Jasmine Grant (Surrey, Canada) placed third in a time of 1:00.40.
Sophomore Patience Yalartai (Bloomington, Minn.) placed second in the women's long jump with a jump of 19-00.50 and provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships.
Freshman Shaheed Hickman (Minneapolis, Minn.) finished second in the 60 meter dash in a time of 6.90.
Junior JoVonte Suber (St. Louis, Mo.) ran to a third place finish in the 200 meter dash in a time of 22.83.
Junior Ryan Johnson (Amery, Wis.) placed fourth in the weight throw with a toss of 56-01.25.
