St. Cloud Has a Strong First Day of Competition in the 2015 Jack Johnson Classic

Minneapolis, Minn.---St. Cloud State travelled to the University of Minnesota to participate in the 2015 Jack Johnson Classic. The Huskies put up many top finishes on day one of the meet and will continue to compete as day two unfolds Jan. 31.

The women's team put up strong performance's as St. Cloud had five top 10 finishers.

Sam Sunstrom (So. Sauk Rapids, Minn.) took 6^th place in the 5000 meter run with a finishing time of 18:06.02.

St. Cloud had top finishes in the field as Becky Schmidt (Sr. White Bear Lake, Minn.) finished secondof 20 in long jump with a 5.63 meter jump. In shot put, Heather Clankie (Jr. Brodhead, Wis.) threw 11.77 meters, which landed her in eighth place.

The Huskies had multiple women competing in the pentathlon. Patience Yalarti (So. Bloomington, Minn.) led the way with a third place finish in the long jump, with a jump of 5.62 meters. Natalie Gottschalk (Fr. Waukesha, Wis.) followed, with a fifth place finish in the 800 meter run, with a finishing time of 2:29:57.

The men had two top finishers in the events of day one. Marcus Welk (Fr. Fargo, N.D.) led the way as he vaulted to a height of 4.47 meters, landing himself in third place. JT Butler (Fr. Montgomery, Minn.) followed behind running into seventh place in the 200 meter dash as he finished with a time of 22.59.

The meet will wrap up tomorrow, as St. Cloud aims to continue their day one success in day two.
