#12 SCSU gains second consecutive shutout vs. #14 MSU

The #12 St. Cloud State University men's hockey team (4-0-0, 0-0-0 NCHC) scored its second consecutive shutout with a 3-0 victory over #14 Minnesota State University Mankato (0-4-0, 0-0-0 WCHA) on Saturday, Oct. 17 at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center in St. Cloud, Minn.
SCSU junior netminder etched his name into the recordbooks by becoming the team's goalie at the Division I level (since 1987-88) to chart three consecutive shutouts in three consecutive starts. On the season, Lindgren is 3-0-0 with a perfect 1.000 save percentage and a 0.00 goals against average. This was Lindgren's sixth career shutout at SCSU.
Once again, the Huskies gained the eventual game winner in the first period when sophomore forward Patrick Russell scored at 4:20 with an assist from junior blueliner Niklas Nevalaine. This was Russell's second goal of the season and it was Nevalaine's second point in 2015-16.
In the second period, SCSU rookie Robby Jackson added his third goal of the new season with a marker at 16:59. He was assisted on the play by sophomore forward Judd Peterson and sophomore defender Nathan Widman.
To cap the contest, Peterson broke into the goal scoring column for the third time this season with an empty net goal at 16:16. Russell was credit with the assist on the play, which was Russell's fourth helper and team leading sixth point of the year.
On defense, Lindgren led the Huskies with 24 saves as both teams had 24 shots in the game. Cole Huggins with the goalie of record for MSU with 21 saves. On the power play, SCSU was 0-1 and MSU was 0-3. In 2015-16, the Huskies have yet to yield a power play goal and are an impressive 12-of-12 on the season on the penalty kill.
