#9/10 St. Cloud State men's hockey drops 5-2 decision at #13/14 Quinnipiac

The #9/10 St. Cloud State University (4-1-0, 0-0-0 NCHC) lost a 5-2 decision at #13/14 Quinnipiac University on Friday, Oct. 23 in Hamden, Conn. The Huskies and Bobcats will complete their two game series on Saturday, Oct. 24 at 6 p.m. (CT) at the TD Bank Sports Center in Hamden, Conn.
Quinnipiac charted five unanswered goals in the contest to capture the victory, which marked the first loss of the season for the Huskies. SCSU broke into the scoring column with a shorthanded goal by sophomore Judd Peterson at 13:28 of the first period. He was assisted on the play by Kalle Kossila and Nathan Widman, which made the score 1-0.
Peterson lit the lamp again at 1:43 of the second period with his team leading fifth goal of the season. He was assisted on the play by Jon Lizotte and Mika Ilvonen. The play moved the game's score to 2-0.
Quinnipiac made it 2-1 with a goal by Andrew Taverner at 10:34 of the second period. The Bobcats then rolled with four more unanswered goals in the contest. Travis St. Denis scored two goals for Quinnipiac in the second period while Scott Davidson completed the second period scoring with a marker at 16:47. In the third period, K.J. Tiefenwerth ended the scoring with a goal at 16:05.
In the contest, SCSU goaltender Charlie Lindgren made 35 saves in the contest for the Huskies. Michael Garteig was the goalie of record for Quinnipiac with 32 saves in the game. On the power play, SCSU was 0-of-2 and QU was 1-of-5.
