Men's basketball falls at home to Mary, 87-82

Will host Southwest Minnesota State in first round of NSIC/Sanford Health Tournament
St. Cloud, Minn. – The University of Mary overcame a ten point second half deficit to post an 87-82 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) North Division win over St. Cloud State in men's basketball action Saturday night at Halenbeck Hall.
The Huskies are 17-11 and 13-9 in the NSIC. Mary improved to 9-17 overall and 7-15 in the NSIC. St. Cloud State will host Southwest Minnesota State University in a first round game of the 2015 NSIC/Sanford Health Men's Basketball Tournament on Wednesday, Feb. 18 at 8 p.m. The men will play the second game of a doubleheader as the St. Cloud State women's team will host the University of Sioux Falls in a first round tournament game at 6 p.m.
St. Cloud State junior guard Jordan Poydras (Los Angeles, Calif.) led the Huskies in scoring with a game high 27 points.
St. Cloud State led the Marauders, 44-35 at the half. Mary opened the second half with a 12-4 run with Germain Decoste scoring five and Chris Mason scoring seven points in the run. The Huskies went on a pair of runs to stretch the lead to ten points, the last at the 12:08 mark of the half.
Two minutes later, Mary's Luke Scott hit a three to give the Marauders a lead that they never relinquished. A pair of free throws by Huskies junior Eddie Alcantara (New York) drew the Huskies to within one point, 73-72 at 5:36. With four seconds remaining a pair of free throws by junior Donnell Cegers (Milwaukee, Wis.) cut the Mary lead to 85-82.
Huskies Tip-ins
Senior forward Connor Niehaus (Fremont, Neb.) scored 14 points, five rebounds and three assists in the game.
Cegers finished the night with 13 points and was four of five from the free throw line.
Alcantara added ten points and seven rebounds. He went six of six from the free throw line.
St. Cloud State shot 41 percent from the field and were eight of 28 from three-point range.
The Huskies honored the four seniors on the team prior to the game. Derrick Boone, James Fort, Kevin Levandoski and Connor Niehaus were recognized.
Mary Notes
The Marauders had six players score in double figures led by Jaycob Velasco with 16 points. He also had six rebounds and made three three's.
Germain Decoste and Damonta Henry each scored 14 points. Henry also made three three-point baskets.
Marquealis Edwards had 13 points and a game high six assists.
Chris Mason and Luke Scott each scored ten points.
Bryan Jefferson led the rebounding column with seven boards and Mary out rebounded the Huskies, 37-33.
The Marauders shot 51.7 percent from the field and 52.4 percent from beyond the arc.
