St. Cloud State men's hockey sweeps #5 Omaha, 2-0

The St. Cloud State University men's hockey team gained a huge NCHC weekend sweep thanks to a 2-0 victory over #5 Omaha on Saturday, Feb. 21 at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center in St. Cloud, Minn. The victory moves SCSU's record to 15-14-1, 10-9-1 NCHC, while Omaha falls to 17-10-3, 11-8-1 NCHC in 2014-15.
In a classic defensive battle for the first half of the game, the two squads both posted nine shots on goal in the first period with no goals scored. The Huskies finally broke into the scoring column midway through the second period when rookie defender Nathan Widman scored an even strength goal at 10:46 with assists from Joe Rehkamp and Tim Daly.Â
This was Widman's second goal of the season and his first game winner at SCSU. The assist was Rehkamp's 10th of the season, while Daly moved his season assist total to six.
In the third period, SCSU's Jimmy Murray iced the game with his third goal of the season at 13:18 of the period. He finished a great set-up pass by junior Kalle Kossila, while the second assist was credited to Ethan Prow. The assist was Kossila's 20th of the 2014-15 season, while Prow now has 12 helpers in 2014-15. Kossila now has 97 career points, which includes 32 goals and 65 assists in 108 games played at SCSU.

In the nets, SCSU goaltender Charlie Lindgren was stellar with 21 saves on the way to his third career shutout and his second of the 2014-15 season. Lindgren is 14-13-1 this season for the Huskies with a 2.30 GAA and a .916 save rate that includes 679 saves this year.
SCSU outshot the Mavericks 32-21 in the contest as Ryan Massa had 30 saves in net for Omaha. On the power play, both teams were o-for-3 on the advantage.
