Women's Basketball Falls to U-Mary 82-70 in Final NSIC Regular Season Play

St. Cloud, Minn. – The St. Cloud State University women's basketball team fell short in their final regular season match-up against the University of Mary. The two teams battled throughout the night, as there were 16 lead changes. The Huskies came up short in overtime with a final score of 82-70.
St. Cloud State falls to 15-11 overall and 11-11 in conference play. The University of Mary improves 10-18 overall and 8-14 in the NSIC.
With 3:48 left in the second, St. Cloud State took the lead after a layup by Kyli Van Klei, followed by a good shot from the free throw line from Lexy Petermann (70-68). The Huskies fouled U-Mary, allowing Brittney Dietz to make both free throws to tie St. Cloud State (70-70). In overtime, U-Mary shot four of seven from the field while the Huskies remained scoreless.
Three St. Cloud State players recorded double-figures this evening.
Junior forward Karissa LeCaptain (Algoma, Wis.) led the Huskies with 17 points. LeCaptain grabbed four rebounds and three steals.
Junior forward Lexy Petermann (Fond du Lac, Wis.) grabbed a team-high 11 rebounds. Petermann finished with 14 points and made four of six from the free throw line.
Sophomore guard Betsy MacDonald (St. Paul, Minn.) finished with 11 points. MacDonald had six rebounds and three assists.
Brittney Dietz led all players with 29 points for the University of Mary.
The Huskies shot 32.6% from the field to U-Mary's 50.0%. St. Cloud State hit 5 of 22 from behind the arc while the Marauders made 9 of 22. The Marauders outrebound the Huskies 48-44. St. Cloud State forced 19 turnovers on the University of Mary compared to their own eight.
St. Cloud State will return to action Wednesday, Feb. 25 in Halenbeck Hall for the first round of the NSIC/Sanford Health Tournament.
