SCSU Women's Basketball Defeats USF 87-76, Advances to Second Round of NSIC/Sanford Health Tournament

St. Cloud, Minn. – The St. Cloud State women's basketball team battled against the University of Sioux Falls in the first round of the NSIC/Sanford Health tournament this evening. The Huskies defeated the Cougars 87-76. St. Cloud State will take on Wayne State on Saturday, Feb. 28 at 5:30 p.m. in Sioux Falls, S.D.
The Huskies improve to 16-11 overall. The University of Sioux Falls finished their season with an overall record of 17-10.
Four of St. Cloud State players finished in the double figures this evening.
Sophomore guard Chelsea Nooker (Green Bay, Wis.) recorded a double-double putting up 22 points and 10 rebounds. Nooker was perfect from behind the line making six of six and had four steals.
Junior forward Karissa LeCaptain (Algoma, Wis.) led all players with 23 points. LeCaptain made 9 of 14 from the field and grabbed eight rebounds.
Sophomore guard Betsy MacDonald (St. Paul, Minn.) finished with 19 points. MacDonald made three of six from the three-point range and had three assists.
Junior forward Lexy Petermann (Fond du Lac, Wis.) recorded 15 points for the Huskies. Petermann had seven rebounds and made two of four from behind the arc.
Jaicee Ulmer and Taylor Varsho finished with 18 points for the University of Sioux Falls.
St. Cloud State took an early lead in the first half as they were up by 14 with 13:11 left (19-5). Sioux Falls cut the lead to just three at the half (38-35). In the second half, St. Cloud State wasn't able to hold their lead as the Cougars pulled ahead with their largest lead of the night at 13:45 (54-45). The Huskies came back to win with the help of Lexy Petermann who recorded 15 points and Chelsea Nooker and Betsy MacDonald who each recorded 12 points for the Huskies in the second half.
St. Cloud State shot 40% from the three-point range compared to the Cougars 25.8%. The Huskies forced 14 turnovers on the University of Sioux Falls and committed nine. Sioux Falls outrebound the Huskies 42-40
St. Cloud State advances to the second round of the NSIC tournament. The Huskies will face off against Wayne State at 5:30 p.m. in Sioux Falls. Wayne State defeated Bemidji State University this evening with a final score of 76-50.
