Ryan Johnson places 16th in the hammer at NCAA Championships

Allendale, Mich. -- St. Cloud State junior Ryan Johnson (Amery, Wis.) opened the 2015 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field National Championships May 21 with a 16th place finish in the hammer throw.
Johnson, ranked 19th coming into the event had a toss of 173-2 which came on his first throw. Justin Welch of Findlay won the event with a mark of 221-5, beating the runner up by nearly four feet.
A USTFCCCA All-Region team member, the outdoor championships marked the second NCAA national competition for Johnson, who qualified for the indoor national championships in the weight throw in 2013-14.
On Friday, May 22, teammate and junior Rafael Saez will compete in the discus throw at 4 p.m. central time. On Saturday, May 24, sophomore Patience Yalartai will compete in the women's triple jump at 11:45 a.m.
