Indoor Track’s Patience Yalartai Wins A Pair Of Events at Chuck Petersen Open / Sam Sunstrom Places Fourth At St. Scholastica in 3,000m

Duluth / Mankato, Minn. – Senior Patience Yalartai won a pair of events to lead the St. Cloud State indoor track and field program at the Chuck Petersen Open at the Myers Fieldhouse on the campus of Minnesota State on Saturday, Dec. 3.
The SCSU program had a total of four top-four finish at the Chuck Petersen Open and also saw senior Sam Sunstrom recorded an NCAA DII provisional qualifying time in the 3,000m at the College of St. Scholastica.
Sunstrom finished fourth overall in the 3,000m run with her time of 10:01.97 at the Opener. The time was a provisional qualifier and better than the 10:03.17 needed to reach the standard. Emilee Trost of Minnesota Duluth won the race with 9:34.09.
Yalartai won the long jump with her leap of 5.66m/18'07.00 and also took home first in the triple jump (12.16m/39'10.75). Both marks are better than NCAA Division II Provisional Qualifying standards.
Senior Kristen Wendt placed second in the 300m dash (44.41), while junior McKenzie Holt earned third in the 3,000m run at Minnesota State (10:56.24).
Next, the SCSU women are not competing again until after the holidays when the program heads off to the Minnesota Open hosted by the University of Minnesota on Saturday, Jan. 14.
