Sam Sunstrom Earns Ninth To Lead Cross Country at Roy Griak Cross Country Invitational

FALCON HEIGHTS, Minn. – Senior Sam Sunstrom earned ninth in the 6K race to lead the St. Cloud State cross country team to a 22nd place finish at the Roy Griak Cross Country Invitational in the Women's Maroon Division II portion of the race at the Les Bolstad Golf Course in Falcon Heights, Minn. on Saturday, Sept. 24, as hosted by the University of Minnesota.
Sunstrom had a time of 23:18.8 to place ninth overall in the 6K race. She had an average pacing time of 6:16. The winner of the event was Alexis Zeis from University of Mary in a time of 22:10.2.
The Huskies were able to place two runners in the top 100 plus four in the top 135 in the competition of 392 runners.
Freshman Chrissy Lofgren finished 100th with her time of 25:20.8. Fellow freshman Autumn Shurbert-Hetzel was 132nd with a 25:52.0. Senior Kaylee Roelike finished with a 25:54.3 to place 133rd. Fellow senior Rachel Sakry earned 158th place with a time of 26:11.9. Junior McKenzie Holt ran a 26:40.0 to finish 175th. Junior Zia Matti earned 183rd place with her time of 26:52.0.
The Huskies, as a team, finished the meet in 22nd place out of the 40 racing teams with an average time of 25:19.6.
Next, SCSU returns home to take host the Bob Waxlax Invitational on Oct. 7 at the Wapicada Golf Course in Sauk Rapids, Minn.
