No. 8 St. Cloud State Women’s Hockey Falls to (RV) Minnesota State in Series Opener

Mavericks take down SCSU, 4-1
ST. CLOUD, Minn. – No. 8 St. Cloud State Women's Hockey (7-4-2, 3-4-2 Western Collegiate Hockey Association) fell in its series opener against (RV) Minnesota State on Friday evening at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center in St. Cloud. SCSU has now dropped three straight games.
The Mavericks (3-5-1, 1-5-1) led the Huskies in shots (33-30), faceoff wins (36-16) and blocked shots (12-8). Each team made 29 saves. SCSU found themselves in a 2-0 hole with six minutes left in the second period before junior forward Avery Farrell (Rogers, Minn.) scored to make it a one goal game just two and a half minutes later. MSU added its two final goals in the third period when they led the Huskies in shots on goal 16-5.

- Freshman goaltender Emilia Kyrkkö (Nokia, Finland) tied for the game-lead, making 29 saves.
- SCSU is now 52-43-13 all-time against Minnesota State and 30-21-5 against the Mavericks at the Brooks Center.
- SCSU's penalty kill was 3-for-3 and powerplay went 0-for-2.
- Farrell scored her third goal of the season and 22nd of her collegiate career in her 85th career game.
- Ross tallied her fourth assist of the season.
- Zimmermann recorded her fourth assist of the season and 10th of her career while playing in her 45th career game.
- Graduate forward Emma Gentry (Alpena, Mich.) led the Huskies with seven faceoff wins.
- Senior defender Taylor Larson (Nisswa, Minn.) skated in her 115th career game.
- Fifth year forward Brieja Parent (Forest Lake, Minn.) played in her 110th career collegiate game.
- Junior forward Svenja Voigt (Cologne, Germany) skated in her 70th career game.
