Les Luymes
- Induction:
- 1993
According to John Kasper's "The Husky Tradition", which chronicles the history of men's athletics at SCSU, Coach Luymes was excitable by nature. Once, while attempting to rally his team to a fever pitch during a halftime chalk talk, he popped a stick of chalk into his mouth rather than his ever-present cigarette. However, Luverne "Les" Luymes' football teams were champions. Coach Luymes joined the Husky staff in 1950 as head basketball and assistant football coach. In 1951 he assumed the head football post. Under his leadership, the football Huskies won outright conference championships in 1951, 1953, 1954, 1955 and were co-champions in 1952.
