A SCSU student from 1934-39, who competed as a swimmer in the 1932 Olympics in Los Angeles and the 1936 Olympics in Berlin. She placed sixth in the 200-yard breaststroke in 1932 and qualified for the finals in 1936 but was held out of further competition because of an ear infection. Van Steinburg, a physical education major at SCSU, taught physical education and swimming at Duluth's Washington Junior High School for 17 years and swimming at University of Minnesota-Duluth for four years. She is retired and living in Duluth.
