Bob Altavilla is a 1956 graduate of SCSU. He was a baseball letterwinner in 1949, 1950, 1955, and 1956 and has the unique distinction of having played under three different baseball coaches - Al Brainerd, John Kasper and Paul Meadows. He led the baseball team in hitting all four years and holds the highest career batting average (.406) in SCSU baseball history. Altavilla also was a letterwinner in basketball during the 1949-50 season. He has taught and coached at Benson and Babbit high schools and is presently a teacher, coach, and athletic director at Vermillion Community College. His VCC basketball team has won the conference title eight out of the last 12 years. His teams also have competed in the Community College State Tournament 11 of the last 12 years.
