He was a four-year varsity starter on the St. Cloud State men's basketball team from 1962 to 1966. Â A team co-captain his junior and senior years, he helped lead the Huskies to four Northern Intercollegiate Conference (NIC) Championships. Â He was named the top forward in the NIC, was a two-time All-Conference selection and was named an Honorable Mention All-American. He scored 30 points as a freshman in his first varsity starting role and went on to average 26.4 points his rookie season. Â The Huskies won their first ever NAIA District 13 title in 1962 and returned to the NAIA finals in 1966. Â He set the career field-goal shooting percentage mark in 1966 and currently ranks fourth on the career chart with a .566 field goal percentage (220-387). He went on to coach varsity high school basketball for 26 years and took six different teams to the state tournament. Â He won two state championships including the 1971 championship with a Melrose High School. Â
