Dr. Norman Nelson

deceased, St. Cloud, Minn., graduated from Bemidji State Teachers College in 1938 and received his master's degree from the University of Iowa. He joined the National Guard while attending Bemidji State and was sent to Camp Hawn, Calif., during World War II and spent five and a half years in the Coast Artillery. He attended dental school at the University of Minnesota and practiced dentistry in Wadena and then in St. Cloud for 35 years. Following his retirement, he coached the men's golf team at SC's for seven seasons. He was inducted into the Bemidji State Athletic Hall of Fame where he holds the record for receiving the most letters in a career with 12. He also was inducted into the Northern Intercollegiate Hall of Fame. He was involved in many community activities, including vice president of the Wheels, Wings and Water Festival in 1988, Chamber of Commerce top Hatter, Lions Club and VFW, and St. John's Episcopal Church. He is the husband of Gladys Nelson of St. Cloud.Â
