A four-time letterwinner in track and wrestling, who was NAIA wrestling champion (191 pounds) in the 1962-63 season. As a track competitor, he was NIC and NAIA District 13 shotput champion in 1963. Smith served as wrestling and track captain in 1964. Smith is a member of the NAIA Wrestling Hall of Fame and the National Junior College Wrestling Hall of Fame (as an official). Smith resides and works in Columbus, IN.
