Gene Windfeldt is being honored with the 1994 Distinguished Service Award. He has been credited by Morris Kurtz, former SCSU athletics director, with providing the knowledge, energy, skill, creativity, leadership and financial support that has contributed to many successes achieved by the department. Windfeldt played a critical role in the conceptual stage of the hockey's development. Windfeldt and his family left St. Cloud in 1987 for Cleveland where he is president and chief executive officer of the Kirby Company. While in St. Cloud, Windfeldt was a dynamic force in the community both in terms of business success and community involvement.
