A four-time basketball letterwinner, he was NAIA All-American in 1966. Schmiesing has SCSU records for: most points in one game (56), most free throws in one game (16), most field goals in one game (20), most free throws in one season (139), best field-goal percentage in one season (.631), highest points-per-game average in one season (22.5) and best career field-goal percentage (.602). Schmiesing is fifth on the all-time SCSU scoring list with 1,295 points. He is a special education instructor in Little Falls.
