James Gammell
- Induction:
- 2002
St. Cloud, MN: A fan favorite at SCSU's home sporting events, Jim Gammell is the Athletic Hall of Fame's Distinguished Service Award winner. Best known for his distinctive collection of hats that he wears at the SCSU home games for football, basketball, and hockey, Gammell is the head of JM Ushers, a group of senior citizens who collect tickets and supervise VIP parking for every SCSU home sporting event. In addition, and perhaps his best known role, Jim patrols the grandstands hawking game programs, team yearbooks, schedule cards and trading cards at SCSU games. Gammell has been an active community member in St. Cloud since 1942. His volunteer activities run the gamut from the American Red Cross to the Eagles Club, Salvation Army, Stearns County Courthouse, Tri-County Crimestoppers and St. Cloud Parks and Recreation. Last year alone, he clocked nearly 500 hours of volunteer work. Gammell worked in St. Cloud at AAA for 25 years and retired from there in 1988.
