Barton earned five athletic letters in swimming from 1976-80; additionally, she was voted MVP in those same years and was co-captain from 1978-79. Barton was SCSU's first woman All-American. In 1980, she held records in the following: 200 medley relay, 400 individual medley, 200 individual medley, 100 individual medley, 200 backstroke, 100 backstroke, 50 backstroke, 400 freestyle relay, and the 200 freestyle relay. Barton coached girls' swimming at Littleton (Colorado) High School for one year, and she was the assistant coach for girls' swimming at St. Cloud Tech High School. She currently lives and works in Boise, Idaho.
