He was one of the pioneers of NCAA Division I hockey at St. Cloud State. He joined the team in 1988-89, the second season of Division I competition at St. Cloud State, and helped establish the men's program's national reputation. From 1988-92, Saterdalen recorded 78 goals and 101 assists for a career total of 179 points. He owns team records for career points and assists, and ranks second in career goals. He also helped the Huskies gain their first-ever NCAA Division I tournament bid in 1989. He ranks among the top 10 in several season-record categories. A two-time team most valuable player, he helped guide the Huskies into the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) and was named to the All-WCHA Honorable Mention list in 1991-92 and the Academic All-WCHA squad in 1990-91.
