He played baseball for the Huskies from 1967 to 1970, when the team won or shared three NIC championships. The 1969 baseball team finished third at the NAIA National Tournament. In 1970, at the age of 32, the oldest letter winner in baseball at SCSU hit .390 for the season. He was also a member of the 1967 SCSU football team that won the NIC championship. Henkemeyer chaired the university's annual Community Foundation Campaign in 1989 and has continued to support SCSU and its athletic program.
