Jerry Thayer is a 1959 graduate with a degree in physical education. In 1963, Jerry completed his master's degree in physical education at St. Cloud State. Jerry earned three varsity letters in basketball and contributed to three Husky championships in the Northern Intercollegiate Conference 1956-1958. After concluding his college career, Jerry played in the St. Cloud City League where he was named the league's most valuable player. That team also won the Minnesota State recreation tournament. After graduation, Jerry taught and coached at Pine City and Minneapolis South High Schools where his teams respectively won district and city championships. He also coached four years at Mayville State College where his teams won two championships. As a sales representative in the College Sales Division of Josten's, Jerry has maintained an interest in education. In 1981 he was named college sales person of the year. He also served 19 years on the Minnesota Mr. Basketball committee which selects the outstanding male high school basketball player each season.
