John Blomlie, Basketball & Football, 1960-64
A two-sport athlete, John Blomlie played football and basketball in the early 1960’s. He captained the 1962 Husky football team and was a first team All-Conference guard on the 1962 Northern Intercollegiate Conference (NIC) Basketball Championship team that advanced to the NAIA National Tournament in Kansas City, Mo. Blomlie played in 40 basketball games for the Huskies and scored 362 points in his career. He was the second leading scorer on the 1961-62 team averaging 11.6 points a game. That season the Huskies won the NIC title, the NAIA District 13 Tournament and advanced to the NAIA National Tournament, posting a 22-4 record. Blomlie had a successful career as a teacher, coach and high school athletics director following his graduation from St. Cloud State.Â
