Kurt Threinen ran cross country and track for SCSU from 1980 to 1983. Kurt won the NCAA outdoor title in the 10k in 1985. He placed second in the 5k at the NCAA Indoor Championships earlier that season. He also won the 5k at the NCC indoor championships. Kurt was a 12-time All-NCC performer in indoor and outdoor track. The Huskies won the NIC cross country championship in 1980 and the NCC cross country championship in 1983. In 1983, the Huskies placed second at the NCAA Division II Nationals. Kurt was a two-time All-American in cross country, placing third in the nation in 1982 and fourth in 1983, and was a three-time All-Conference performer. He was an SCSU scholar-athlete in 1985 and track and field team MVP that same year. He still holds school records in the indoor 5000 meters, the outdoor 3000 meter steeplechase and 4x800 relay. Kurt went on to coach cross country and track and field at SCSU, the College of St. Benedict and Hartwick College, and is currently an assistant coach at St. Olaf College. He received both his degrees from SCSU.
