A 1970 graduate, Johnson participated in wrestling, track and football. Football being his forte, he earned three athletic letters from 1966-68; he earned All-Conference, All-District, and Little All-American honors during his college career. Johnson was SCSU's first All-American football player. Besides playing in the Canadian football league for the Edmonton Eskimos, Johnson played in the National football league as a center for the Minnesota Vikings in 1969 and the New York Giants in 1970. He is now a member of the NFL alumni organization. As a SCSU alum, Johnson has contributed to SCSU athletics and has attended various fund raising events.
