A SCSU student from 1930-34, he lettered in football, basketball, track and tennis. He was an all-conference selection in football and basketball. Later, he refereed Minnesota high school football and basketball games for 35 years, and also served as St. Cloud Tech High School tennis coach for 31 years and St. Cloud Apollo High School tennis coach for three years. Doane supervised the St. Cloud municipal recreation tennis program for many years. He was listed as the SCSU track coach for 1933 and 1934 as a student participant. Retired, Doane spends time between St. Cloud and Pharr, TX.
