from Rosemount, MN, graduated from SCSU with a Bachelor's degree in 1988. He also attended graduate school at the University of Minnesota in 1989 and West Virginia State in the summer of 1993. During his high school years at Coon Rapids in 1979-1981, he was the captain of the swim team in 1981, All-Conference in 1980-1981, MVP in 1980-1981, a state qualifier in 1980-1981, a state finalist in 1981 and a state qualifier in 1981 for track in the high jump. His college years at SCSU were filled with numerous achievements. He was the captain of the swim team in 1985, MVP in 1984-1985, team record holder of several categories (some of which are still standing), an eight-time All-American selection, the 3rd in the nation in the 100-yeard breaststroke, the 4th in the 200-yard breaststroke, and the swim team NCC Champions in 1982-1985. Mark was the 1985 NCC Swimmer of the Year. He was the qualifier for the 1984 Olympic trials in the 100-yard breaststroke and a United States Swimming National meet qualifier in 1982-1985. In 1985 and 1986, he was named the Section 2 Girls Swimming Coach of the Year and the Section 2 Boys Swimming Coach of the Year. he was the head swimming coach for Sartell High School (boys and girls) in 1985-1989 and the assistant track coach in 1986-1988. He held the same positions at the Eagan high School in 1990-1997. In 1997, he was the head swimming coach for Eastview High School. He compiled a dual meet record of 95 wins and 16 losses for Sartell High School in four years. he brought qualified swimmers nine times to the finals of the state meet between 1986-1997 and again was named Section 3 Boys Swimming Coach of the Year in 1995.
