Milaca, MN Merl Soderstrom attended St. Cloud State University from 1959 to 1963. During his time on campus he competed for the Husky football and baseball teams. He was an All-Conference team selection in football in 1960 and 1961. In 1961 he was voted team MVP and named to the All-NAIA District 13 Football Team. He was a three-year letter winner in baseball and captained the team in 1962. Following his graduation from SCSU, he went on to teach and coach in the Milaca Public Schools. He has coached football, basketball, wrestling, baseball and softball at Milaca. He has been a coach for 38 years and been honored as Region 5 Coach of the Year and District 16 Coach of the Year. His teams have won numerous conference, district and region championships. He has been distinguished as a 1994 and 1999 member of Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers. He has also officiated football, basketball, baseball and softball for 25 years. The Milaca High School Athletic Field has been named in his honor, SOD Park.
