#7/8 SCSU Men's Hockey Brings Back 5-2 Victory from CC

Colorado Springs, Colo. - The #7/8 St.Cloud State University men's hockey team (19-12-1. 16-7-1 WCHA) scored an important 5-2 WCHA victory at Colorado College (12-15-5, 9-11-4 WCHA) on Saturday, Feb. 23.
The victory helped the Huskies maintain their hold on first place in the WCHA with 33 league points. Minnesota trails in second place with 31 points while North Dakota and Nebraska Omaha hold down third place with 30 points apiece in WCHA play.
Colorado College opened the game's scoring at 3:48 of the first period with a goal by Rylan Schwartz, which gave the Tigers a 1-0 lead.
The Huskies rallied at 7:41 of the first period with an even strength goal by Jonny Brodzinski. Assists on the play were added by Drew LeBlanc and Andrew Prochno. This was Brodzinski's team-leading 17th goal of the season.
In the second period, the Huskies scored three unanswered goals to put the game out of reach for the Tigers. Rookie forward Kalle Kossila scored at 5:22 of the second with an assist from Prochno and Brodzinski. This was Kossila's 13th goal of the season and it was Brodzinski's 10th assist of 2012-13.
Cory Thorson added the game winner for the Huskies at 9:31 of the second. The goal provided the Huskies with a 3-1 lead as Ethan Prow and Nick Oliver earned assists on the play. This was Prow's 10th assist of the season, while Oliver returned to action tonight to score his fifth assist of the year.
To end the second period scoring barrage for the Huskies, Ben Hanowski bet the buzzer with his 13th goal of the season at 19:57 of the second period. LeBlanc and Nick Jensen each had assists on the play. This was LeBlanc's nation leading 32nd assist of the year and it was Jensen's 22nd helper of 2012-13.
LeBlanc tied a team record tonight by playing in his 161st career game at SCSU. He ties the record set by Ryan Lasch from 2006-10. The pair of assists moves his career assist total to 100 at SCSU. He becomes just the fourth Husky at the DI level to score 100 career assists.
Colorado College broke the scoring streak at 4:12 of the third period with another goal by Schwartz. At 17:14 of the third period, SCSU's Joey Benik scored his second goal of 2012-13 for the Huskies to make it a final at 5-2. Prochno charted his third assist on the goal to get playmaker status. Prochno now has 17 assists for the Huskies this year.
In the game, SCSU outshot the Tigers 26-19. On the power play, SCSU was 0-of-4 and CC was 0-of-2. Ryan Faragher made 17 saves and gained the win for the Huskies, which moves his season mark to 17-10-1. Joe Howe was the goalie of record for CC with 17 saves.
