THIS WEEK'S SCSU NOTES (PDF)
HUSKY HEADLINES:
FIRST PLACE HUSKIES: SCSU team pushed its unbeaten streak in WCHA play to nine games with a weekend sweep at Bemidji State on Feb. 1-2. The Huskies, who also own a six-game unbeaten streak in overall play, charted a 4-0 victory at BSU on Feb. 1, and then completed the series with a 4-1 victory on Feb. 2. The Huskies now own a perfect 4-0 record in games played at BSU new arena. The two wins at BSU allowed the Huskies to maintain their hold on first place in the WCHA with a 14-5-1 league record (29 points). This is already the most league points amassed by the Huskies in a season since 2009-10, when the Huskies placed third in league play with 35 points. Overall, the Huskies own a 17-10-1 record.
HERMANTOWN HERO: SCSU Hobey Baker candidate Drew LeBlanc continues to provide offensive input into the Huskies' winning equation in 2012-13. On Feb. 1, LeBlanc had an assist on Ben Hanowski's first period goal in the 4-0 shutout. LeBlanc capped the weekend with a two-point night in the 4-1 win. He scored his 30th assist of the year on David Morley's power play marker in the second period and also scored an unassisted goal at :12 of the third period. LeBlanc has posted 37 goals, 98 assists and 135 points during his run at SCSU. He ranks fifth in the team records for career assists and 10th for career points. For a season, LeBlanc becomes just the 11th player in team history to hit the 30-assist plateau in a season. Of note, the SCSU team record for assists in a season is owned by Mark Hartigan (2001-02) and Brandon Sampair (2000-01) with 38 apiece.
