Madison, Wis. – St. Cloud State University women's hockey team took on Wisconsin in game two of the First Round WCHA Playoffs Saturday falling 4-1 to end the series.
The first period was scoreless until the 18:46 mark when Wisconsin's Katy Josephs tipped in a pass from Saige Pacholok just in front of the blue line. SCSU gave up a late goal in the first period of game one as well for the Badgers to take a lead into intermission.
The Badgers got into penalty trouble having two occurrences with overlapping penalties at which the Huskies were able to capitalize on one of them.
St. Cloud tied the game up 1-1 with the goal they were looking for as senior captain Alex Nelson found the net on a 5-on-3 scoring opportunity. Nelson scored at the 11:02 mark of the second period with assists from Audrey Hanmer and Michelle Burke.
SCSU outshot the Badgers in the second period, recording 10 shots on goal to Wisconsin's five.
The Huskies were just unable to hold on as Wisconsin snuck a shot past Julie Friend to take a 2-1 lead, shooting from just behind the goal line on a power-play opportunity. Just 1:55 later Wisconsin extended their lead to 3-1 on another power-play as a shot bounced off Friend's pad and into the goal.
The Badgers were able to get another goal at the 13:20 mark of the third period for a 4-1 lead.
SCSU's Friend earned the starting spot again tonight putting up 31 saves, while Wisconsin's Alex Rigsby totaled 22 saves for the win.
