SAINT LEO, Fla. – St. Cloud State senior Sam Sunstrom finished her cross country season in style by placing 34th overall at the NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships on Saturday, Nov. 19, in Saint Leo, Fla. at the Abbey Course.
Sunstrom's time of 21:21.1 in the 6K race was good for 34th place among the 240 runners that competed. By placing in the top 40 in the unofficial results she qualifies as a U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-American. The USTFCCCA will make the official announcement on Monday once the official results are released of who is on their All-American list.
The race cap off an outstanding season for Sunstrom where she placed in the top 10 in six races, won a pair of events plus also earned USTFCCA All-Region accolades.
The championship race was won by Kendra Foley of Grand Valley State in a time of 20:01.8. Alexis Zeis of the University of Mary placed second with a 20:26.4, while Caroline Kurgat of Alaska Anchorage placed third with a 20:30.5.
