The #2 St. Cloud State men's hockey team (7-1-0, 2-0-0 NCHC) will continue its 2018-19 NCHC schedule with a pair of home dates at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center against #5 University of Denver on Nov. 9-10. MILITARY APPRECIATION NIGHT - NOV. 9: SCSU men's hockey will have Military Appreciation Night on Friday, Nov. 9 at the HBNHC. IN THE POLLS: The Huskies received a #2 ranking in the USA TODAY/USA Hockey weekly poll. In the USCHO.com poll this week, the Huskies earned a #2 ranking.
SWEEP AT CC: The Huskies earned their third series sweep of the season with 5-3 and 2-1 wins at Colorado College on Nov. 2-3. The Huskies trailed 2-0 in the 2nd period before rallying to gain the 5-3 win on Nov. 2 as Ryan Poehling and Patrick Newell each notched two goals in the game. SCSU dominated the scoresheet in the game's second half by out shooting CC 18-1 in the second and 17-6 in the third. Overall, SCSU outshot CC 41-15 in the game...on Nov. 3, SCSU trailed 1-0 heading into the third period before goals by Jack Poehling and Easton Brodzinski lifted the Huskies to a 2-1 win. David Hrenak had 29 saves in the game and improved his record to 5-0-0 with the two wins at the World Arena.

ON TOP: Jack Ahcan is tied for the top spot in all of NCAA DI hockey with 10 assists this season. He added one assist at CC on Nov. 2, and missed a spot on the scoresheet for the first time all season on Nov. 3. He is currently tied for the team lead with 11 points this winter, along with Patrick Newell. Ahcan ranks sixth in the nation among DI defenseman currently with 1.38 PPG.
SHORT STORY: Ryan Poehling scored SCSU's first SHG of the season at CC on Nov. 2. This was also SCSU's first ENG of the season too. Of note, Poehling now has 3g/5a this season for the Huskies and this was the first SHG of his college career at SCSU.
WINNER, WINNER: When Patrick Newell scores, the Huskies win...or so it seems. The senior from Thousand Oaks, Calif., leads the NCAA with four game winning goals in 2018-19. He added his fourth GWG on Nov. 2 at CC. The team record for GWGs in a season is seven by Joey Benik in 2015-16. Benik is currently playing for Lillehammer in the Norway league in 2018-19.
YOUNG GUN: Nolan Walker continues to impress in 2018-19 with 3g/5a in eight games played. He currently ranks eighth in the nation among DI rookies with a scoring rate of 1.00 PPG.
NET GAIN: Sophomore David Hrenak earned back-to-back starts for the first time on Nov. 2-3. He replied with 41 saves and two wins in the two games (allowing only two even strength goals at CC). His 1.40 GAA this winter currently ranks 5th best among DI netminders. His save rate of .940 ranks 10th in the nation and he is first in the country with a 1.000 win percentage. A 2018 draftee of Los Angeles, Hrenak is 19-7-2 with a 1.99 GAA during his tenure at SCSU.
THE NOTEBOOK: Jimmy Schuldt and Robby Jackson both need 10 more points to join the Huskies' 100-point club and Patrick Newell needs 16 points to hit 100...Jimmy Schuldt has played in 125 consecutive games during his college career at SCSU...SCSU has only allowed three power play goals this season...SCSU has outscored its opponents 34-12 in 2018-19...SCSU ranks 8th in the country on offense at 4.25 goals per game and third on defense at 1.50 goals allowed per game...SCSU leads the nation with a scoring margin of 2.75 gpg...SCSU is first in the nation on the penalty kill at 91.9 percent and 8th on the power play at 27.6 percent.
