Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

#1/2 St. Cloud State men's hockey blanks Omaha, 2-0

The #1/2 ranked St. Cloud State University men's hockey team (12-1-2, 5-0-2 NCHC) returned to the win column and stretched its unbeaten streak in 2018-18 to nine games with a 2-0 shutout against the Omaha Mavericks (4-9-2, 2-4-1 NCHC) on Friday, Dec. 7 at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center in St. Cloud, Minn.

The game marked SCSU's fourth shutout of the season and it was the second shutout of the season and fifth career shutout for SCSU netminder David Hrenak, who made 18 saves in the contest.

The Huskies dominated the contest early as they outshot the Mavericks 18-5 in the first period.  Jack Poehling posted the game winner at 1:38 of the first period with assists from Brendan Bushy and Nick Poehling.  This was Jack Poehling's third goal of the season and it was the fourth assist of the year for both Busy and Nick Poehling.

In the second period, senior captain Jimmy Schuldt added a power play goal at 14:29 with assists from Ryan Poehling and Blake Lizotte.  Schuldt's goal tied a team record for most career power play goals scored by a SCSU defenseman with 18.  He is tied for the team record along with Justin Fletcher, who skated for the Huskies from 2003 to 2007.

The point was also Schuldt's 97th career point at SCSU and it was his fifth goal of the season.  The assist was Ryan Poehling's team leading 13th helper of the year.

In the contest, SCSU outhshot the Mavericks 38-18 with the Huskies going 1-of-4 on the power play.  On the penalty kill, SCSU was 2-of-2 in the game.  The Huskies currently rank second in the nation with a penalty kill rate of 89.1 percent (49-of-55).
