St. Cloud State falls in 2OT heartbreaker at Concordia-St. Paul

The St. Cloud State University soccer team (12-5-3, 10-2-3 NSIC) ended its run in the 2019 NSIC tournament with a dramatic 2-1 double overtime loss at Concordia-St. Paul on Friday, Nov. 15 in St. Paul, Minn.
The loss in the semifinal game of the NSIC tournament allows CSP to advance to the championship game on Sunday, Nov. 17 against Minnesota State in St. Paul, Minn.
In a tough defensive battle, SCSU and CSP played to a scoreless draw during the first half on a sunny day at Sea Foam Stadium. CSP broke the shutout at 65:31 with a goal by Nikki Anderson to give the Golden Bears at 1-0 lead.
The CSP lead appeared to be good for the win before the Huskies forced the OT sessions with the game tying goal by Kaitlyn Dziubinski at 89:29. The goal was Dziubinski's fourth of the season and her 11th point of 2019. Neither team was able to score in the closing seconds of regulation play.
In the first OT session, SCSU outshot the Golden Bears 2-1 but neither team was able to gain the winning point. In the second OT session, CSP finally gained the game winning goal at 106:34 with Anderson's second goal of the afternoon.
CSP outshot the Huskies 16-15 in this evenly contested game as Zoe Welsh made five saves in the game for SCSU. Jordyn Clark was the goalie of record for CSP with eight saves. Dziubinski, Nicole Friis, Jenna Dominquez and Claire Shea all had three shots apiece for SCSU.
