BURNSVILLE, MINN. - It was a year unlike any other for the St. Cloud State University athletics department. The Huskies sojourned through the unique year, overcoming several obstacles and unexpected twists presented by the COVID-19 pandemic. Unlike 2020, spring happened for St. Cloud State athletics in 2021, with several teams and individuals enjoying success both on and off the field of competition. On Wednesday, the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) recognized 48 Husky spring sport athletes as members of the conference's Spring All-Academic Team and Academic Team of Excellence.
The 48 honorees matches the highest total for St. Cloud State in recent history, as the Huskies reached the same mark last year. The track and field team led the way with 19 honorees this spring, while both the baseball and softball teams saw 13 student-athletes honors. The Huskies tennis team additionally saw three student-athletes honored bringing the total to 48.Â
In total, 943 student-athletes received NSIC All-Academic honors this spring and 577 of those student-athletes were named to the NSIC All-Academic Team of Excellence. To be eligible to receive All-Academic Team honors, student-athletes must be a member of the varsity travel team and maintain a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.20 or higher. Additionally, the student-athletes must academically be of sophomore, junior or senior standing and completed one full year at the institution.
