Five With Ties to SCSU Women’s Hockey Named to Finland’s National Team for 2024 Six Nations Tournament

Current Huskies Ahola, Kyrrkö, Sundelin, Yrjölä and alumna Jennina Nylund set to compete for Finland at the Six Nations Tournament from Dec. 11-15 in Tampere, Finland
HELSINKI – Four current St. Cloud State Women's Hockey players and one alumna have been named to Finland's National Team that will compete at the 2024 Six Nations Tournament, as announced by the organization on Monday. Fifth year goaltender Sanni Ahola (Helsinki, Finland), freshman goaltender Emilia Kyrkkö (Nokia, Finland), sophomore forward Sofianna Sundelin (Ulvila, Finland) and freshman defender Siiri Yrjölä (Vantaa, Finland) will be joined by 2023 SCSU aluma Jenniina Nylund (Pietarsaari, Finland) on the team that will compete from Dec. 11-15 in Tampere, Finland.
The Six Nations Tournament is the third competition on the annual Women's Euro Hockey Tour (WEHT) and in addition to Finland, includes Canada, Czechia, Switzerland, Sweden and the U.S.
The six participating countries will be split into two groups. Group A includes the United States, Finland and Switzerland, while Group B features Canada, Czechia and Sweden. Teams will play each team in their group, before the top two teams of each group meet to determine placement in the championship and third-place games. Finland opens play on Dec. 11 against the United States at Hakametsä Arena. Puck drop is slated for 7 p.m. local time (11 a.m. CT).
This season, Ahola and Kyrkkö have split time in net for the Huskies. Ahola owns a 6-2-1 record, a 1.89 goals against average and a .918 save percentage in 507 minutes. Kyrkkö is 4-3-2 with a 2.07 GAA and a .924 S% in 578 minutes. Sundelin has skated in all 18 games and is tied for second on the team in points with eight (three goals, five assists). Yrjölä has skated in 15 games but has not recorded a collegiate point yet. Nylund finished her SCSU career in 2022-23 with 89 career points (40 goals, 49 assists).
