Huskies score two in the second half to beat Bulldogs
ST. CLOUD, Minn. – After falling behind in the first half, St. Cloud State Women's Soccer (7-1-3, 5-1-2 NSIC) scored twice in the second half to come back and beat Minnesota Duluth (3-5-3, 2-4-2 NSIC) on Sunday afternoon at Husky Stadium in St. Cloud, Minn. Sophomore midfielder Darby Allen (Minnetonka, Minn.) scored the game-tying goal in the 58th minute before junior forward Linsey Trapino (Verona, Wis.) scored the game-winning goal in the 78th minute.
TURNING POINT
UMD took a lead in the first half with a goal in the 23rd minute and held that lead until the Huskies were able to turn the momentum in the 58th minute. With SCSU pushing the pace and looking for the equalizer, a handball was called on the Bulldogs while in the box, setting up a penalty kick opportunity for Allen. She made the most of her chance, sending the ball to the top right corner to tie the score.
Then, 20 minutes later, SCSU capitalized on the chances it was creating throughout the game. UMD's goalie attempted to clear the ball out of the box, but the ball found senior midfielder Brooke Quam (Lakeville, Minn.) near midfield, who quickly passed it to junior midfielder Grace Olson (West Des Moines, Iowa) and then back to Quam, who was able to pass it up to Trapino who got past the Bulldog defense. Left all alone, Trapino was streaking toward the box and beat the UMD goalie for the score and go-ahead goal.
