Junior forward notched five points (3g/2a) in St. Thomas series
BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – St. Cloud State Women's Hockey junior forward Alice Sauriol (Sherbrooke, Quebec) was named Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) Fowrard of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday. Sauriol led the way offensively for the Huskies with a five-point weekend in a series split with then-(RV) St. Thomas, scoring three goals and two assists with a +3 mark on the ice. It is her first WCHA weekly award of the season and second of her career after being named Rookie of the Week on 10/16/23.
Sauriol is the third Husky to win WCHA weekly honors this season, following freshman forward Maria Mikaelyan (Moscow, Russia) who earned Rookie of the Week honors on Oct. 13 and sophomore defender Siiri Yrjölä (Vantaa, Finland), who was named Defender of the Week on Sept. 22. She is the first Husky to be named conference Forward of the Week since Sofianna Sundelin (Ulvila, Finland) earned the honor last February.
The third year forward opened the weekend with a three-point performance (2 goals/1 assist) in Friday's 4-3 win over (RV) St. Thomas, including the game-winning goal in overtime and was named the game's first star. It was the first two-goal game of her career and her third career three-point game. In Saturday's overtime loss, she recorded two more points (1 goal/1 assist) and was named the game's third star, finishing the weekend with five points (3 goals/2 assists) and a +3 mark.
SCSU split its series against (RV) St. Thomas at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center, winning 4-3 in overtime on Friday before falling 4-3 in overtime on Saturday.
The Huskies travel to Columbus, Ohio next weekend for a series against No. 2 Ohio State (5-1-0, 3-1-0 WCHA). Puck drop on Friday is scheduled for 5 p.m. CT/6 p.m. ET, while the series will wrap up from the OSU Ice Rink on Saturday at 2 p.m. CT/3 p.m. ET.
