
Macdonald and Quam Earn NSIC Honors, Eight Named to All-NSIC

Macdonald named NSIC Coach of the Year, Quam named NSIC Midfielder of the Year, SCSU has league and program-high eight all-conference honorees
ST. CLOUD, Minn. – St. Cloud State Women's Soccer had two recognized in specialty awards and eight named to all-conference teams in the end-of-season Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) awards, as the league announced its awards winners on Thursday. Head coach Gretta Macdonald was named the NSIC Coach of the Year for the second time in three seasons while senior midfielder Brooke Quam (Lakeville, Minn.) was named the NSIC Midfielder of the Year. Additionally, SCSU had a league-high eight individuals earn all-conference honors, with two being named to the first team and six earning second team honors.
Macdonald's coach of the year honor is the second time in three seasons (2023) and the second time ever an SCSU coach has earned the conference's top coaching honor. Quam is the first recipient of the conference's midfielder of the year award. SCSU's eight all-conference honorees match its 2023 total for the most in a season in program history. Quam is joined by senior forward Ellie Primerano (Saint Joseph, Mich.) on the first team list while sophomore midfielder Darby Allen (Minnetonka, Minn.), sophomore defender Izzy Halunen (Woodbury, Minn.), junior midfielder Grace Olson (West Des Moines, Iowa), junior defender Ana Spaine (West Des Moines, Iowa), redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Jaylee Strickland (Columbus, Ohio) and junior forward Linsey Trapino (Verona, Wis.) all earned second team honors.
Macdonald once again has led the Huskies to one of its most successful seasons in program history with a 14-1-4 record (11-1-3 NSIC) and a No. 3 seed in the NSIC Tournament. The Huskies are tracking towards its third consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance with its No. 3 ranking in the latest NCAA Central Region ranking and will compete in the NSIC Tournament semifinals for just the fifth time in program history on Friday. SCSU has set numerous single season program records in 2025, including wins (14), conference wins (11), most shutouts (11) and longest unbeaten streak to start a season (nine games). She earned her 100th career victory in win over Wayne State (Oct. 31) and is already the program's all-time winningest coach at 103-70-35 (.579).
Quam is the first recipient of the NSIC midfielder of the year honor while earning her third All-NSIC honor (2023-25) and second first team honor (2023, 2025). She led the NSIC in total assists with seven while adding two goals for 11 points. She scored both of her goals in NSIC play while adding three assists for seven points while helping lead SCSU to a program-record 11 conference wins. Quam joined SCSU's 25-point club this season and currently ranks 14th all-time in career scoring with 35 points (7g/21a). Her seven assists are the 10th-most in a single season in program history while her 21 career assists rank second. She had three assists against UW-Parkside (Sept. 12), becoming just the second Husky in program history to have multiple games of three or more assists.
Primerano becomes the third player in program history to earn four all-conference honors, joining Mary Morhardt (2009-12) and Mackenzie Winters (2014-17), and the first ever to earn three first team honors. She was named to the 2022 All-NSIC second team before three consecutive first team selections from 2023-25. Primerano has continued to lead the charge offensively this season, leading the team in scoring with six goals and six assists for 18 points and four game-winning goals. Among program career records, she ranks third in game-winning goals (eight), fourth in assists (20), fifth in scoring (54 pts, 17g/20a) and 10th in goals (17).
Among the second team recipients, Olson, Spaine and Strickland earned all-conference honors for the third time while Strickland and Trapino earned honors for the second time and Allen for the first time in her career. Strickland is in the middle of arguably the best goalkeeper season in program history, as she owns the single season program records in wins (14), shutouts (10) and goals-against average (0.54). Spaine and Halunen have anchored the backline which has set program records in shutouts (11) and best GAA (0.53). Trapino is tied with Primerano for the team-lead with 18 points and leads the team in goals with seven while adding four assists. Her 19 career goals ranks eighth all-time in program history while her 48 career points (19g/10a) rank eighth. Olson became the most recent member of SCSU's 25-point club this season and currently has four goals and five assists for 13 points. Allen has become a scoring machine for the Huskies, scoring five goals to rank third on the team.
No. 3-seeded SCSU will play the No. 2 seed in the tournament, Bemidji State on Friday, Nov. 14 in the NSIC Tournament semifinals. The match will be played at 10:00 a.m. CT at The Pitch in Mankato, Minn.
