Holly Schreiner enters her third year as the St. Cloud State University Director of Athletics after being named to the position in May 2023. An 20-year veteran of St. Cloud State Athletics, Schreiner served as the Interim Director of Athletics from June 2022 to until her promotion to the full time role.
Schreiner began her two-plus decade career with SCSU in December 2000 as the Director of Budgeting and Sports Campus for Campus Recreation before transitioning to the Associate Director of Operations at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center, a role she held until December 2005. She officially started in the SCSU athletic department in December 2005, taking on the role of Director of Compliance, which she held until 2013 when she was promoted to Associate Athletics Director of Compliance and Student Services while taking on the role of Senior Women’s Administrator for the department.
In June 2022, Schreiner was named the Interim Director of Athletics while continuing her duties as Associate Athletics Director of Compliance and Student Services and adding Associate Athletics Director of Finance and Administration due to another departure. Schreiner has also held sport responsibilities for nearly every sport during her time with SCSU Athletics.
The Huskies have enjoyed much success in Schreiner’s three seasons leading the department (2022-25), highlighted by conference/regional championships in four sports and an individual national championship from wrestling’s Nick Novak in 2023. In the 2022-23 Learfield Directors Cup, the Huskies finished in 44th place with 383.50 points, its best finish since 2011-12 in the prestigious competition ranking all Division-II institutions in the NCAA. In three seasons, the Huskies registered 90 All-America honors and 13 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-American honors.
Schreiner has earned a bachelor’s degree in Speech Communication (2000) and a master’s degree in Sports Management (2008), both from St. Cloud State University. A native of Sauk Rapids, Minn., Holly and her husband Scott and their two daughters, Gracyn and Mara, reside in Cold Spring. Scott Schreiner is the co-owner of the St. Cloud Rox of the Northwoods League.
