Men’s Basketball Plays Three Conference Games This Week

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – The St. Cloud State men's basketball team (11-7, 7-2 NSIC) has a busy week of action on tap as the program hosts three Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference opponents at Halenbeck Hall. The program starts the week by welcoming in Minnesota Duluth (4-11. 3-6 NSIC) for a 7 p.m. game on Tuesday, Jan. 10. The team then see Upper Iowa (11-5, 8-2 NSIC) come to St. Cloud for an 8 p.m. contest on Friday, Jan 13, before hosting Winona State (7-7, 4-6 NSIC) on Saturday, Jan. 14, at 6 p.m.

Additionally, there is several promotions going on throughout each of the games this week. The game on Tuesday, Jan. 10, against Minnesota Duluth is Jersey Night - where all fans are encouraged to wear their favorite athletic jersey to the game – and also Dollar Hot Dog Night. The theme on Friday, Jan. 13, against Upper Iowa is Flannel Night with all those in attendance encouraged to wear flannel pattern shirts. The game on Saturday, Jan. 14, is Fan Appreciation Day. The first 500 fans in attendance will be given a team poster. The game will also be another Dollar Hot Dog night and a Hoop with the Huskies promotion following the game. All fans in attendance are also encouraged to wear red as it will be a RED OUT. Following the men's game that night, kids can shoot around with both the men's and women's team, plus get autographs and have their pictures taken with members of both programs.

Scouting Minnesota Duluth
- The Bulldogs are coached by Matt Bowen, who is in his fifth year running the program.
- UMD has won two of the team's last three games including splitting the weekend contests against Minnesota Crookston (W, 82-58) and Bemidji State (L, 86-78)
- Luke Harris is the only current player averaging in double figures for the program at 11.3 points per game, while shooting 48.1 percent from the field, 37.1 percent from three-point range and 72.7 percent from the free throw line.
- Luke Rohrscheib sports an average of 9.0 points per game, Kyle Schalow puts up 8.7 points per game, Trevor Entwisle has an average of 8.5 points a contest and Brandon Myer gets 7.8 points per game.
- Entwisle is the leading three-point shooter at 48 percent.
- Sean Burns is the top rebounder with his 62 boards.
Scouting Upper Iowa
- The Peacocks are coached by Brooks McKowen, who is in his fourth year running the program.
- The Peacocks have won four of the last five games including a 99-96 overtime thriller over Southwest Minnesota State last time out.
- Upper Iowa is 6-2 in road games this season
- UIU has a balanced offensive attack with six players averaging better than 9.8 points per game.
- Jordan Hay and Jimmy Roth each average 12.6 points per game.
- Hay is also the team leader in rebounds (111), steals (29) and blocks (25).
- Carson Parker has a team-leading 61 assists to go along with his average of 9.9 points per game.
Scouting Winona State
- The Warriors are coached by Todd Eisner, who is in his second year running the program and 19th season overall as a collegiate head coach.
- WSU lost both games over the weekend to end the team's two game winning streak.
- The Warriors have three players averaging in double figures led by Riley Bambenek's 16.6 points per game.
- Bambenek shoots 49.4 percent from the field, 47.7 percent from three-point range and 75.6 percent from the free throw line.
- Kyle Bauman is averaging 12.2 points per game and Isaiah Gray checks in at 12.1 points per game.
Prior Meetings
- St. Cloud State is 55-32 all-time against Minnesota Duluth including a 63-58 victory in Duluth on Dec. 17.
- The programs first started playing against each other during the 1932-33 season.
- Scottie Stone led the team with his 30 points against UMD last time out.
- Minnesota Duluth defeated St. Cloud State by a 100-92 score in their last trip to St. Cloud.
- St. Cloud State is 15-5 all-time against Upper Iowa since the school started playing against each other in 1951-52.
- SCSU fell to Upper Iowa twice last season with both games being in Fayette, Iowa.
- The last loss to UIU, an 87-80 defeat, came in the first round of the NSIC Men's Basketball Tournament with Gage Davis leading the team with his 24 points and 14 rebounds.
- The program defeated UIU by a 91-82 score the last time the schools played in the state of the Minnesota during the 2014-15 season.
- SCSU is 91-45 all-time against Winona State in a series that began in 1922-23.
- The Huskies fell to Winona State by a 96-78 score in Winona, Minn. last season with Stone putting up 20 points, eight rebounds and four assists.
- The program defeated WSU by a 65-56 score the last time the schools met in St. Cloud during the 2014-15 season.

Notables
- St. Cloud State had a 1-1 weekend on the road against Bemidji State and Minnesota Crookston.
- The team is now 7-2 in league play for the first time since the 2011 season.
- SCSU started the week with a 101-86 victory over Bemidji State on Jan. 6 to extend the winning streak to five games.
- The five-game winning streak was the longest for the program since the 2014-15 season when the team also won five in a row (1/30 – 2/13/15).
- The 101 points scored against BSU was the first time that program had hit the century mark this season and the most points scored by the team since getting 102 against Northern State (2/13/16).
- The 101 points scored against Bemidji State was the most on the road since the team scored 108 against Wayne State last season (1/16/16).
- Gage Davis led the way against the Beavers with 28 points and 10 rebounds plus five assists.
- His 28 points was the fifth time this season that he has scored 25 or more points in a game.
- Davis' double-double was his seventh of the season and the 17th of his career.
- Jon Averkamp scored a season-high 17 points in the victory on 7-for-10 shooting from the field.
- Andy Foley reached double figures with his 15 points and tied his career-high with nine rebounds.
- Brindley Theisen recorded double figures for the first time this season and seventh time in his career with 11 points.
- Scottie Stone chipped in 13 points, five assists and four rebounds.
- Trevon Marshall tallied nine points and a career-high seven assists.
- The Huskies shot 56.2 percent from the field (41-for-73) and 48 percent from three-point range (12-for-25) in the win.
- SCSU then lost a tough fought 92-89 to Minnesota Crookston on Jan. 7.
- St. Cloud State held a halftime lead, 40-34, but found themselves down six points in the final minute only to fight back themselves to take an 89-88 lead on a layup from Davis was 14 seconds remaining.
- UMC was then fouled and hit one of two free throws to tie the game.
- A SCSU offensive foul was then called and that put UMC on the line where one of two free throws were hit to again give the Golden Eagles the lead, 90-89.
- SCSU was then called for another offensive foul on the ensuing possession to effectively end the game after a pair of made technical foul shots when the St. Cloud State bench took issue with the second charge call being called in two possessions.
- Davis led the team with 28 points and four assists plus tied for the team lead with eight rebounds.
- On the week, Davis played in 74 minutes, scored 56 points (28 per game), had 18 rebounds (9.0 per game), while shooting 56.8 percent from the field and 42.7 percent from three-point range.
- Stone shot 9-for-18 for 27 points in the loss against Minnesota Crookston.
- It was Stone's seventh game with 20 or more points this season.
- He hit eight threes on the week to run his career total to 243 and get within seven of tying David Dreas' school record of 250.
- Stone has now scored in double figures in 17 of the 18 games this season, 33 of the last 34 games and 65 for 75 games contest over the last three years.
- Averkamp scored 15 points and tallied eight rebounds against the Golden Eagles.
- He has reached double figures in 10 games this season including five of his last eight contests.
- The game was the first conference game that SCSU had lost this season when leading at the half and only the third loss to Minnesota Crookston in 31 career contests.
- The 92 points allowed to UMC was only the second time the program has given up 90 or more points in a game this season.
- The Huskies get on the road next and travel to Northern State (Jan. 20) and then to MSU Moorhead (Jan. 21) next week.
- St. Cloud State is 28-12 all-time against NSU since the teams started playing against each other in 1959-60.
- The programs split the contests last season with Northern State defeating SCSU by an 88-81 score at home (12/12/15) and SCSU returning the favor and defending the home court well in a 102-82 victory over the Wolves (2/12/16).
- The 102 points scored by SCSU was the last time the program recorded 100 or more points in a game.
- Gage Davis had 25 points, six rebounds plus four assists in the victory.
- Scottie Stone tallied 18 points.
- Seth Mortag recorded a double-double of 12 points and 11 rebounds against NSU.
- The Huskies lead the series with MSU Moorhead by an 81-43 margin since the school started playing against each other in 1932-33.
- The Dragons have won the last six games of the series including defeating SCSU by scores of 77-64 (12/11/15) at home and 90-82 at home (2/13/16).
