A four-time All-American at 285-pounds for the Huskies, Austin Goergen will serve as a student assistant coach for the Huskies in 2017-18.
A resident of Caledonia, Minn. and graduate of Caledonia Area High School, Goergen ended a sterling collegiate wrestling career in March 2017 by earning his fourth consecutive NCAA Division II All-America award. He placed third in the 285-pound division at the 2017 NCAA DII championships and helped the Huskies gain a second place finish at the NCAA tournament this winter.
The NCAA Division II's Most Dominant Wrestler for 2016-17, Goergen scored three consecutive falls on his way to a third-place finish at the NCAA finals in 2017. Goergen finished his 2016-17 season with a 32-2 overall record and set a new team record with 20 falls this winter. A four-time All-American for the Huskies, Goergen set a team record with 71 falls during this career. He also ended his four-year run with the Huskies in 2016-17 with an impressive 136-14 overall. Goergen served as a team captain for the Huskies in 2016-17 and earned All-NSIC honors once again this winter.
Of note, SCSU won four consecutive NSIC championships during Goergen's college career and he also helped lead the Huskies to NCAA Division II championships in 2016 and 2015 along with a second place finish in 2017 and a 6th place finish in 2014.
