Huskies Fall to the Bulldogs In a Battle, 3-1

Duluth, Minn. – It was a battle of the Huskies and the Bulldogs Saturday as the St. Cloud State University women's hockey team was on the road to take on the University of Minnesota Duluth in a WCHA series. UMD defeated the Huskies 3-1 Saturday.
Duluth came out strong to take an early 1-0 lead over the Huskies just 3:05 into the game with a shot into the left corner of the net by Jamie Kenyon.
SCSU was outshot in the first period by a margin of 16-to-6.
With the second period came some scoring from both teams. The Bulldogs extended their lead 2-0 at the 4:31 mark but 24 seconds later the Huskies closed the gap making it a 2-1 game. It was senior Alex Nelson scoring a shorthanded goal for the Huskies and was assisted by junior Molli Mott.
St. Cloud State kept the shots closer in the second period recording 13, while the Bulldogs totaled 15.
The Huskies continued to fire off shots in the third period but could not get one past UMD's goalie. Duluth was able to score one more goal to make it a 3-1 game on an empty net with only three seconds left in the game.
Julie Friend was in goal for the Huskies recording 36 saves, while UMD's Kayla Black totaled 24 saves for the win. Friend drops her record to 4-7-1 on the season.
The Huskies (8-14-1, 4-13-0 WCHA) and the Bulldogs (8-8-3, 7-7-1 WCHA) will return to action Sunday for game two of the WCHA series at AMSOIL Arena. The drop of the puck is set for 3:07 p.m.
